Coins – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – Gift package

Thanks to Pmex.net

I was having a rather dismal day yesterday with the stock market down 300 points and then my brother, Roger, who was headed my way called to say his truck broke down and he would be very late.

When he did arrive, I helped him bring in some home grown corn and squash and a few jars of tomato juice. Then he told me that my daughter had sent me a Rubbermaid tub of items from my mother's estate. I really didn't expect much and I wasn't surprised with what I found. There were a lot of old pictures and lots of papers from years back that needed to be thrown away. There were a few things, however, that were worth keeping. Perhaps the best item was a scrapbook filled with paper articles from when I had played baseball, football, tennis and golf. These I think would be items that my children might like to keep. Horrors! I also found some of my old grade cards. I didn't know that you could put so many C's, D's and E's on one report card. I showed it to Joshua and told him that I guessed I would have to be satisfied with his five A+'s, Four A's and two A-'s.

This story doesn't end there, however, because in the bottom of the tub was a large plastic bag containing coins and bills. After counting everything I found that there were 40 silver dollars and a large amount of halves, quarters and dimes, all of which were silver. I didn't count the pennies or nickels but I am sure there are several hundred of those. Remember me telling in my book that I sold my coin collection to pay for my college? It seems that I continued to collect a few items and had my mother hold them for me.

Just at first glance I am sure that the coins and bills will be worth several thousand dollars. I hope to get Joshua's interest in collecting American coins going and that with this start he will follow the guidelines for our Club. By the time he enters college, his education should be paid for like mine.

I hope this story will be an encouragement for many of you to start your children in this direction. You will hopefully be seeing Josh's listings in our classifieds very soon. I haven't heard if any of you have placed your 4 x 6 card in public places advertising for coins but if you haven't there is still time.

With silver dollars selling at $20 or more, it only takes a few of them to really mount up. Buying collections of coins now may allow you to purchase silver dollars for $5 to $7 dollars each. Don't be surprised if you find ones selling for $50 or more in the group you purchase. I believe silver is a better investment than gold because it is being used up while gold is just being accumulated.

You should be using all the free methods of advertising available to you right now while silver and gold are at their peaks. Coins can always be moved very quickly so you won't have your money tied up for long. That is the type of investment we are looking for. I will be reporting on Josh's progress.

Facebook – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – Are you using it?

I received a call from a gentleman by the name of Steven yesterday and he really opened my eyes. His company helps people use the social networking channels in the proper way. I had never really thought much about what an impact the social networks could have on the Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Club, but he soon explained that I was perhaps missing out on the largest market on the web.

We talked for over an hour and I continued to stress that my plan was to get our club and the power of our marketplace and classifieds in front of millions of people by using Google and Yahoo. He agreed that using them to the fullest was one way to brand our company, but there was another way that was growing even faster and that is through the social networks. He gave me examples of the power of Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin and how they would be beneficial to our company.

If we contract with Steve's company to create a social networking page for the company, it will provide much needed exposure for us as a company and you as a member of the community that we are creating. This may give that effort a huge boost.

Here is where you come in. I recommend that all our members create their own Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin pages for yourself if you haven't already. These are all free and can be used to spread the word about you're doing in the antique and collectible markets. This will start your own communities and it will be a way you can reach out to the people that have become your community. You have heard me say that there is no better way of advertising yourself than word of mouth and that is what these sites provide.

We at the home office will consider this option for the company and if we proceed I will be sharing with you the ways in which you can tremendously increase your sales through these three avenues. At the present time, Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles has signed up for all three of these sites. Unfortunately they haven't been maximized but that could be changing very soon. There would be an expense to the company but the information that we receive could then be passed on to you free.

I will be writing more on this subject very soon I hope.

Drums – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – Who would have thought it?

This notice is for those of you who link to our blog through blogspot. On August 1, the new blogs will no longer appear on blogspot but only on the www.darylelambert.com site. We are giving over a month’s notice so that all of our readers will continue to receive the blog by linking to the home page. Blogspot will keep the old blogs, but after the first, they will not receive the new ones.

 Thanks to Flicker.com

I have always been interested in drums and it might be explained by my total lack of musical talent. But anyone can bang on a drum, right? In the first grade, when I was only six, we were required to buy a small flute like instrument. After one week my teacher said that I could take mine home and that meant that my music days were over. Even then, however, if I passed by a set of drums I would have to beat out a little rat-a-tat tat on them.

So as members of our Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Club search for the other instruments, I keep my eyes out for drums. Yes, it is my dream to find an old Indian drum or better yet a Civil War one and it would be almost unthinkable if I came across one from the Revolutionary War. But to get back to reality, there is great value in the more contemporary drums that most would still call "vintage".

It was shocking to find that you can still find original Indian drums for just a few hundred dollars. A Civil War one may set you back just a little more. I am not sure about the Revolutionary drums, but in my opinion, these would be fairly expensive. But the real value seems to be in the newer drums and I can see why. Some of you may still be old enough to remember Buddy Rich and Gene Kupa and what they could produce from a set of drums. It was almost magical to hear them play. Even Ringo Starr was above average for a drummer and then you come to some that the real young music lovers say are the best there has ever been such as John Bonham of Led Zeppelin and Van Hallen of Black Sabbath. To be fortunate enough to find a set of drums with these drummers' signatures on them would set you back more money then I have. Just sets like the ones these drummers used would cost you thousands today.

As always when I write a blog I check eBayThere is a set of Ludwig Buddy Rich drums listed at $6000. For just one snare drum the listing is $3000. I had to look at over two full pages of listing before I found a set under $1000. Keep your eyes open for the vintage drums and I believe they will qualify for your treasure list.

My friend John just bought a set of drums, for I believe $100 or less and they are now in the hands of a person who was willing to pay $500 for them. After the kids are out of the house, it seems that parents are more than willing to part with their drums.

I just wonder if Vickie would allow me to have a set. On second thought, I don't think I will try my luck with that.

The collector market is so interesting because it grows slowly and then explodes. At first, items that eventually become collectible are often thrown away because they are just taking up space, no longer have any use or they have become outdated. Some of you who are as old as I am can remember when this happened to radios and televisions. Those same items that I remember sitting beside the road for the trash man to pick up are now commanding thousands of dollars.

So would you like for me to share with you what the next trash to riches items are going to be: computers. No, there won't be many people collecting the computers that I first remember because they were as large as a medium size room, but their parts may very well be valuable today. Those old computers were magnetic reel to reel units and the tape might very well be something that the collectors could be searching for to add to their computer collection today.

What I'm talking about are the vintage computers such as the early Macs. It seems almost impossible how the computer has changed over the last 50 years and I don't think we have seen anything yet. I am hearing that the hard drive computers are going to be obsolete very soon and all information will be kept on mega computers.

I am now seeing 1970 Macs selling for $400 or more and that figure will continue to appreciate. Here is the good news. If you keep your eyes open at the next garage or house sale, I will promise you that they can be purchased for under $25. Don't forget about those early IBM computers either because they also are bringing more money as we speak. There are 70's and 80's computers listed on eBay for over $2000. Here are a few other names to watch for: Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Rockwell.
The dealers will soon be scouring the market for these machines so you may have a limited time to find them before the public catches on.

Once something becomes obsolete then people want it back. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, the old farm wagon no longer has a use in this modern society but if you find a tin Owensboro Wagon sign, you call me. I have customers for all of the Owensboro signs you can find but not many want the wagons for themselves.

If you stay ahead of the trends, you will make more money than you can spend. Just don't fall behind the trends because that can be fatal to you profits.

Your Best Friend – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog - Our Classifieds

I have decided that, whatever it takes, I am going to ensure that the Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Club and its members are #1 in the antique and collectible community in the country. If I have to pull our members across the finish line, that will be what I will do, so hang on.

In my opinion, the classifieds program is the greatest value that a member of our club has received since the club began. To make it so our members can't wait to list their treasures on our site, I am going to give each person who signs up for a package of 10 credits (or $10) another $25 worth of credits free. These credits don't expire and they can be used whenever the member wishes. One credit entitles the member to one listing for 30 days and there is no final value fee. You keep the total amount of the item you sell, less $1. You can also list your items on any other site, as long as if it sells somewhere else, you cancel your listing on our site.

Here is something that I hope you realize. As a member of our club, the classifieds may be the best place in the world for you to purchase treasures for resale. I can hear you asking “How can that be?” Here is your answer. Each of us has our own group of customers, but I often don't have anyone in mind when I purchase what I think is a bargain. I list it in the classifieds at what I want so it will compound my money. You, on the other hand, may have a customer looking for exactly what I'm selling. This is where we work together. You buy it and your customer is more than glad to pay your price, which meets your goal of compounding. I went to a flea market once and before daylight I saw a gentleman crawl into the back of a truck and purchase a hall tree. Before long, I saw that hall tree in another booth and asked if it was the same one that I had seen earlier and it was. Before I left the market, I spotted the same piece in the third location and yes, it had been sold twice and now was up for sale again. You had better believe that each time it changed hands there was profit made.

I know that I have said this until you're tired of hearing it but we are in the business of moving money. If I can double my money in 30 days, then I really don't care what the next buyer gets for my item. In fact, if I don't have a retail buyer for my items, I am more than willing to sell to another dealer, as long as I have made my profit. When dealers buy from you and make money, guess what? They come back looking for more. There are many times when I buy an item for a special person and then I may make 10 times the price I paid, but if I can't sell it quickly the dealers are my second best option.

Tomorrow, I am having a glass dealer coming to my house to view the glass I have for sale. I hope she takes a truck full of my items to her place. Build a broad base where you are always wheeling and dealing. I call this filling your pipeline. I often go to a garage or house sale and end up selling items to people that I meet there because I know what they’re looking for. My store is always open no matter where I am. I was once bowling on a league and started talking to a bowler on the other team. I found out he was a collector and I had something he should buy. The deal was completed and he immediately went up and got a strike, so I didn't try to sell him anything else until the match was over.

I hope to see your ads posted soon and I will make every effort to see that they sell them.

Furniture – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – I don't often do furniture

 Thanks to Flicker

Over the years, I have told you that if something is larger than a bread box it usually isn't for me. This is especially true for furniture. There are, however, exceptions. I am going to tell you about a piece of furniture that is always in demand and you don't have to worry about its size.

Can you guess what I'm talking about? I will give you a clue. It comes in many pieces. Give up? Well, it is a set of lawyer bookcases. The surprising thing to me is how many different types of them there are. Yes, I know they can come in stacks as high as 8 or 10. There are also several companies that produced them and it seems people collect certain ones by different companies.

These bookcases can have legs or bottoms that hold drawers and that makes a difference in their price. What is the same about stacked bookcases is that they can be separated into sections. First there is a top and bottom, which I understand represents a unit, and then each section counts as one unit. This makes them very easy to transport and that is why they are an exception to my rule on furniture.

I purchased a set of 5 and a set of 4 but they are entirely different from one another. In fact, I am going to be at the warehouse tomorrow looking at their labels and styles because I listed them on Craig's List. The reason for that is I don't wish to ship them and by listing in the Chicago area they can be picked up.

These bookcases are something that you should be able to at least double you money on if they are purchased right. I have found that the cheapest set of 5 units will bring $500 and up, depending on the set. There are many of these sets that will bring $200 a unit, so you are talking about $1000. If the glass is covered by metal with a leaded glass design, your price might go to $1500 or $2000.

The next exception to my don't buy furniture rule is miniatures or salesman samples. These pieces were designed by the best craftsmen of the day. Depending on its quality, a miniature desk or chest might bring upwards of $5000 or more. They are usually exact copies of the original full scale piece. The dovetailing and inlay is often amazing and the woods used were often the most expensive available.

As you can see these exceptions can really make you money so keep an eye out for them.

More and more, I am told that there aren't rare and unusual Antique and Collectible items to be found. In fact, a new friend by the name of Tom told me a few weeks ago that he was going to try buying more expensive antiques and collectibles because he felt ready to take the next step up. Yes, he was listening to my message that there will always be more money in items that bear higher prices. However, I believe he misunderstood what I was saying a little.

If you buy 10 items for $100 and sell them for $200, you have met our goal of compounding and added $1000 to our bank account. That isn't all bad, but what if you bought a painting for $1500 and sold it for $15,000? Which would you have preferred for yourself? On the second trade, you would have made $13,500 on a $1,500 dollar investment while on the first trade, even though you compounded your money, you would have only made $1,000 on a $1,000 investment.

Here is a story Tom told me. He purchased a lady’s watch for either $1 or $2 and a jeweler told him it was worth $350. After researching the watch on eBay, he figured it would sell for $50 to $100. If he had continued to misinterpret what I was saying about not staying with cheap items, then he would have never purchased the watch. But yesterday, I told him what a wonderful trade he was going to make.

Here is the correct interpretation of the program I espouse. The key to getting rich is compounding your money as often as possible. But if you are only using simple compounding on cheap items, that might be the long way around. No, I wouldn't want to continue buying something for $1 and selling it for $2 when, if I am patient in my buying, I can purchase a watch like Tom did for $1 or $2 and then sell it for $100. If you stay with $1 items, pretty soon you will have to buy 1000's of them and then sell those 1000's for two dollars to continue compounding your money. So, as your bank account grows, try to buy few items that are more expensive and continue to at least do a simple compounding when you sell them. This will be much simpler than having to deal in 1000's of $2 items.

Yes, I would always buy something for a dollar or two if it would bring me $25 or more, but that wouldn't be what I was looking for and you can bet that item would be on eBay the day I bought it. But would I buy an item for $5 to sell it at $10? My answer to that question would be no.

If this doesn't make sense to you, please email or call me so that we can discuss it. The thing that perhaps makes me the proudest of what is happening at the Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Club is the degree to which our members are acquiring the knowledge to really change their lives. I hope that all of you will continue what has been started and each will complete the race to the million.

Dress – Ivory – Bronze - Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – What they have in common

This notice is for those of you who link to our blog through blogspot. On August 1, the new blogs will no longer appear on blogspot but only on the www.darylelambert.com site. Bronze

When I talk to people these days, it is as if they are zombies. Everything is in the dumpster never to be retrieved again. “Why buy anything?” they ask “because it can't be sold.” Here is a question for you. Is that true? My answer is “no” but you would expect that from me. Now I am going to share the other side of this story with you.

My friend, Whitney, stopped to talk the other day and this is her story. Whitney bought my book over a year ago and she and a friend decided to follow the “31 Steps to Your Millions in Antiques and Collectibles” program. Her friend found a designer dress which she purchased for about $100, if my memory serves me right, and soon sold for $3000. I didn't hear from Whitney for a few months but when I did she had found some ivory which was purchased again for just a few dollars but sold for $2500. This was while others were starting to freeze up and say that nothing was happening. Yes, I would be the first to admit that the economy has made it a little harder, but that is when the real treasure hunters get going.

The last show that I watched of the American Pickers was amazing and I wish that all my readers will go to the American Pickers site and view some of their shows. Watching them, you would never guess that the antique and collectible business wasn't the greatest ever. Time after time, they are able to pull treasures out of trash and then go on to the next stop.

I hear you “What about Whitney?” It seems her friend was visiting a house sale and really hadn't found much of interest until she headed out the door and noticed two bronze lion figures holding the door. She asked their price and the lady screamed “What's the price on the lions?” The answer soon came as “$250 each” began to echo throughout the entire house. Whitney's friend said “sold” and then they worried about how to get them to her car because they were large and heavy. A couple of the workers, taking pity on her, brought the lions to the car and off she went. Getting home and not finding the answer to what her new found treasures were worth, she found an appraiser of bronze that soon gave her an answer that took her breath away. It seems that the pair are by a well known artist. The give away price would be $10,000, but at auction they may even reach $20,000 or higher.

If you are one of those who feel that the antique and collectible markets are finished, you need to talk to Whitney and her friend.

Obama – Daryle Lambert's Antiques and Collectibles Blog – Wasted Opportunity

This notice is for those of you who link to our blog through blogspot. On August 1, the new blogs will no longer appear on blogspot but only on the www.darylelambert.com site. We are giving over a month’s notice so that all of our readers will continue to receive the blog by linking to the home page. Blogspot will keep the old blogs, but after the first, they will not receive the new ones.

It is time for me to fess up I was wrong on how history would treat Obama. I have written several articles on Obama in which I stated that, although I disagreed with him on almost everything, he would go down in history with Washington and Lincoln. This has become a nightmare for me as I see this president disintegrating before the country’s eyes. In his speech to the nation from the Oval Office, he seemed more like a little boy playing leader than the real thing. I have never seen a president be so far from what the voters wanted on almost every issue. If I didn't know better, I would think that he was trying to self destruct.

To my regret, I recommended that my readers buy the better items from the Obama campaign but now, I hate to admit it, but it will be a long time in coming for these items to appreciate much. The Chicago way seems to be in place throughout the entire White House and if I am correct, there are going to be scandals from this administration that will top even the worst in our country’s history.

The best way for me to evaluate what the public is thinking about Obama is to see what the prices are doing on items pertaining to him. There is no doubt that his memorabilia is sinking faster than the Titanic. His centerpiece for collectors is the Shepard Fairey poster and it can be purchased for half what it would have cost you after the election. Even his books and other signed items seem to be on the sales table today. Not even his most admiring fans seem to be willing to put their cash out for the President’s items.

Here is the difficult part. If you took my advice and bought Obama items and still have them, it would be my suggestion that you sell them now, knowing there will be a loss incurred. With the money you receive, you should be able to recoup your loss pretty quickly in other items that are under priced today.
